Percussion Ensemble

The Southeast Missouri State University Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Shane Mizicko, is comprised of undergraduate students and is open to any percussionist at Southeast with the permission of the director. Each semester the percussion ensemble performs a wide variety of repertoire representing many eras, styles, and composers. Along with the ensemble’s annual fall and spring semester concerts the Southeast Percussion Ensemble also performs a Family Holiday Concert each December. Since the inception of the Family Holiday Concert in 2008 the popularity of the Southeast Percussion Ensemble has grown substantially in the Southeast Missouri community and has led to sold-out performances. The ensemble has been under the direction of Shane Mizicko since 2005 and has performed with and/or has been coached by many of the percussion industries leading performing artists: Third Coast Percussion Ensemble (Chicago), Gerald Noble (Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra), Past)(Modern Performance Duo, Ney Rosauro, Will James (St. Louis Symphony), Blake Tyson (University Central Arkansas), Matt Henry (University of Missouri-St. Louis), and Anders Åstrand (Stockholm, Sweden). In addition to the aforementioned performances each year many of its members and its director perform in numerous other performances each year given by two outgrowth ensembles of the Southeast Percussion Ensemble: the Southeast Marimba Band and the Southeast Steel Drum Band.
